In John 15 verses 4-5, Jesus said: “abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in Him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” If we want to bear fruit for God’s kingdom, we need to remain in Jesus and put our relationship with Him at the centre of our lives, choosing to seek Him and believing we will find Him.

Relationship is at the heart of what Jesus is saying here. He doesn’t tell us these things to be strict and to stop our fun, but so His joy may may in us and so our joy will be full! (John 15:11) Our God is a God of Joy, just imagine what creation would have looked like if God wasn’t a supremely joyful being! If we want to bear fruit and become like Jesus, we need to develop our understanding of the Father’s Delight for us. We need to realise that He is not an angry God who condemns or criticises us, but Zephaniah 3:17 tells that “He will take great delight in you; in his love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” – what an amazing promise! We have a heavenly Father who is devoted to us, who rejoices over us, and through the amazing gift of His son Jesus we can boldly approach His throne knowing we are free from condemnation, and we can have a personal relationship with Him!

Once the knowledge of this goes from our minds to our hearts, we can start to realise our potential for bearing abundant fruit for the Kingdom of God and live in the truth that nothing is impossible with Him!
